So Brave, Australia’s only charity dedicated to young women diagnosed with breast cancer, welcomes the announcement of a blood test for breast cancer detection.

This breakthrough reflects growing national recognition of the unique challenges faced by young women—who are often missed by traditional screening programs and support pathways.

Blood Test Launch a Step Forward, But More Inclusion Needed

The introduction of a blood test to assist in the detection of breast cancer represents a significant step forward in Australia’s approach to early diagnosis. However, So Brave notes that access is currently limited to people already eligible for mammograms—primarily those over 50—meaning many young women, especially those pregnant or postpartum, remain excluded.

“This is a positive move, and we absolutely welcome it,” said Rachelle Panitz, Founder and CEO of So Brave.
“But it’s just the beginning. We must continue to expand access to early detection tools like this for younger women who aren’t eligible for mammograms, but who still face real and growing risk.”

So Brave has long advocated for access to innovative early detection tools for young women, and will continue to work with government and clinical partners to ensure that developments like this blood test become equitable, inclusive, and informed by the lived experiences of young people facing breast cancer.

So Brave congratulates BCAL Diagnostics on the successful launch of BREASTEST at Sydney Breast Clinic.
